Getting Started with The Trusted Freight Exchange (TFX)

Understand how to start searching for and booking loads on TFX

Overview

The Trusted Freight Exchange (TFX) is Highway's free, secure digital marketplace and load exchange with thousands of real loads available every day from hundreds of trusted, verified brokers. It is free for carriers and gives you one place to find freight, post available trucks, and place and manage offers and manage load activity.

Getting started is simple:

Make sure your admin has turned on the “TFX Actions” scope on your user profile to give you permissions for all the necessary pages.

  • On your Highway home page, you may see Recommended Loads. Personalized freight based on your activity, equipment, preferences, freight history, and current broker-posted loads.

  • Use the “Find Loads” menu button to search available freight that matches applicable carrier and broker requirements.

  • Use the “Post Capacity” menu button to post available vehicles so brokers can see where your available trucks are located.

  • Use the “My Loads” menu button to manage bookings and load statuses. Open the load details to continue negotiations in Highway.

  • Use the “Offers” menu button to manage your placed offers. These are organized by brokers and will help you negotiate a good rate for each load.

Access Requirements

To use TFX, your carrier account needs to meet Highway's access requirements. The basic requirements are:

  • Active operating authority or applicable operating registration

  • Successful identity verification (IDV)

  • An active ELD connection with current activity for telematics data even for carriers who are legally ELD exempt. (See ELD exempt notes here)

  • A current insurance policy on file including your cargo policy and commodity exclusions. To see what policies you have on file click on the “Equipment” menu button and then the “Insurance” tab. If you see any errors, please ask your insurance agent to send your updated documents to insurance@certs.highway.com

Secondary Requirements

  • If you don’t have an MC you will only be able to see loads in the state where your DOT is registered

  • For certain states we need recent ELD activity before you’ll be able to search for loads.

  • To search for loads in California, you must have your CARB Truck and Bus certificate on file (more on that HERE)

Additional requirements may apply depending on operating location, certifications, or other eligibility factors.

What To Do Next:

Post Your Capacity

When you post an available truck, the brokers with the top 5 best matched loads will be directly notified, even if those loads are not posted. You will also show up at the top of search lists because of the indicator that you have an available truck near the origin city for a load. This is the best way to stay in front of brokers and be visible. If you have a truck list you send to brokers, you can also send that to us and we will post your trucks for you. Simply email the list to trucks@highway.com

Find Loads

Use filters and sort options to narrow down your search results based on your origin city, dead head distances, where you’re trying to end up, equipment types, broker, etc. and organize your results based on milage, highest rate, etc.

Place and Manage Offers and Negotiations

Use the “Offers” menu button to review and negotiate your offers and next steps to get the load booked.

Track Load Activity

Use the “My Loads” menu button to review the latest status of booked loads, active and completed load activity, VPS score and rate confirmations when available.

Yes. TFX is and will remain free for carriers. We see carriers as the backbone of America and want TFX to be a thank you for trusting us with your information and for your hard work on the road.

Why Can’t I See Loads?

Your account or user may not currently meet the requirements for that feature. See Why Can't I See Loads? to check the most common issues first.

Does having TFX access mean I will see every load?

No. Qualifying for TFX does not mean every load will be visible to every carrier. TFX surfaces loads that are currently available to you based on applicable requirements and matching conditions.
