Downloading the App
Have your driver(s) visit the Apple App Store or the Android Google Play store on their respective mobile device(s) and search for the “Highway for Carriers” app.
Getting a Driver Set Up
Follow the steps below to get your driver ready in Highway:
1. Download & Sign In
Have your driver download the Highway app.
They will need to sign in under your Carrier account.
2. Associate the Driver with Your Carrier (if needed)
If the driver is not already connected to your Carrier:
They can request to join using your MC # or DOT #, or
You can invite them directly:
Go to the Users Page in your Carrier portal
Click “Invite New User”
Assign them Driver permissions
3. Identity Verification
After signing in, the driver may be prompted to verify their identity.
This includes submitting their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and completing a selfie verification.
Assigning a Driver to a Verified ELD Exempt Vehicle
Under My Loads in your Carrier portal, you will see the option to assign or confirm an assigned vehicle.
If a Verified ELD Exempt vehicle is assigned to a load, you’ll be prompted to assign a driver.
If you don’t have a Verified ELD Exempt vehicle available, you can request verification during this process or from the Equipment page in your Carrier Portal.
If the driver has already joined your Carrier account, you can select them from the existing driver dropdown list.
If not, you can invite a new driver.
Adding a new driver will automatically send them an email invitation to join your Carrier in Highway.
Getting Started with Tracking
Once you’re assigned to a load, it will appear under My Loads in the app.
You will only see loads that have been assigned to you.
To enable tracking, simply allow Highway to access your device’s location.
To enable location tracking on your Apple device follow these steps:
Open your phone’s Settings
Tap Privacy & Security → Location Services
Select Highway for Carriers
Choose “Always”
To enable tracking on your Android device, follow these steps:
Open Settings on your phone
Tap Location
Select App location permissions
Choose Highway for Carriers
Select “Allow only while using the app” then “Allow all the time”
When a load enters its tracking window:
Tracking will start automatically
A green border will appear around the load.
This lets you know tracking is active.
If one driver is assigned to multiple loads, multiple loads can appear with a green border.
You can continue using your phone as normal — the Highway app can stay open in the foreground or run in the background.
Actions That Will Disrupt Tracking
Please be aware that the following actions will stop active tracking on a load:
Fully closing (force quitting) the Highway app will stop all tracking.
Changing the assigned vehicle or driver while a load is actively tracking will interrupt tracking.
