🚨 Fraud Alert: Protect Your Loads and Email Accounts

Phishing attacks are targeting rate confirmations.

Updated today

Highway has seen an increase in incidents where carrier email inboxes have been compromised through phishing and other cyberattacks. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated and are specifically targeting load information and rate confirmations.

Important: Protect Your Rate Confirmations

  • Do not store or share Rate Confirmations via email after downloading them from Highway.

  • Do not accept any changes to Rate Confirmations via email or phone.

  • Always require your broker to send changes through a new Secure Rate Confirmation Delivery in Highway.

What We’re Seeing

  • Bad actors copying broker email signatures.

  • Impersonation of brokers inside compromised inboxes.

  • Attempts to redirect loads while they are in transit.

These scams are designed to look legitimate and are difficult to detect without proper safeguards.

How These Attacks Typically Work

  1. A bad actor gains unauthorized access to a carrier’s email account through phishing, password theft, or other hacking methods.

  2. They quietly monitor inbox activity and broker communications.

  3. When ready, they call brokers pretending to represent your company, negotiate rates, and request loads.

  4. The broker emails a rate confirmation to your verified email address.

  5. The bad actor intercepts the rate confirmation, captures the load details, and deletes the email from your inbox.

  6. Using the stolen information, they arrive at the pickup location before you’re aware — and steal the load.

The Impact Can Be Severe

  • Stolen cargo and significant financial losses.

  • Damaged relationships with broker partners.

  • Liability exposure and insurance complications.
